St. Michael's Church; A Dorset Church

Tucked away in the centre of West Compton this private Dorset Church is accessed via a secluded footpath; semi enclosed by overhanging trees on each side, creating a green tunnel to walk through and the feeling that as you approach you are going back in time.

This pretty Dorset church was rebuilt around the mid 1800's in the typical 'Gothic' style of that time, to replace an earlier wooden church destroyed by fire.  It is now privately owned and available for wedding blessings, christenings, other services, recitals and concerts.

This charming church has a simple elegant interior, with stone decoration delicately highlighted in soft colours to match the stained glass windows.  There is an attractive stone font and fine old pulpit, pews and alter rail.  The church still retains it's original bell dated 1665 which can be rung before a service.

The main body of the church can seat 100 wedding or other guests, with the vestry capable of seating a further 20.  If not required the vestry can be separated from the rest of the church by large wooden folding doors.

The church is lit by original oil lamps now converted to electricy, but candles can also be used to create that special ambience for an evening event.  There is no organ in the church, but we can advise on local organists and musicians.
